Face aux excès de la pensée binaire, Hannah Arendt oppose une pensée trinitaire (" trois-en-un ") qui remet enjeu ce que la binarité rejette ou minore : la pluralité. Entre le " Un " et le " Tout ", il y a toujours une place pour un troisième élément. Diagnostic : l'analyse des totalitarismes et la critique de la modernité conduisent, en définitive, à la mise à l'index des différentes formes opératoires de la pensée binaire : la causalité, le dualisme, la logique, la dialectique et le calcul binaire. Remède : une pensée du " trois-en-un " ou trinitaire. Un événement est toujours obtenu après cristallisation de trois éléments. Cette propriété s'applique aux notions et s'étend à tout le corpus arendtien. Cette structure " trois-en-un " permet d'appréhender différemment les nombreux nœuds problématiques qui parsèment son œuvre. Cette méthode peut être résumée ainsi on échappe au carcan binaire en insérant un troisième point d'appui qui pondère les deux autres et ouvre ainsi un espace de signification. Ce troisième point est immuable : il entretient toujours un rapport au monde

This is the first comprehensive treatment of the relationship between the doctrine of the Trinity and pastoral care and counselling. Neil Pembroke contends that an in-depth reflection on the relational dynamics in the Godhead has the capacity to radically renew pastoral practice. Pembroke applies the notion of relational space to care in a parish setting. The life of the triune God is defined by both closeness and open space. The divine persons indwell each other in love, but they also provide space for the expression of particularity. This principle of closeness-with-space is applied in three different pastoral contexts, namely, community life, spiritual friendship, and pastoral conversations. The specialized ministry of pastoral counselling is the focus in the second half of the book. Informing the various explorations is the principle of participation through love: the divine persons participate in each other's existence through loving self-communication. Pembroke shows how this trinitarian virtue is at the centre of three key counselling dynamics: the counselling alliance, empathy, and mirroring.

Aims to develop insight into the relation, which Hobbes describes between his theory of government and the three-part division he draws with respect to religion.
